I lift my eyes to the ridgeline—to the high hills,to the winding paths that rise ahead. Is that where my help comes from?
No—my help comes from the Eternal, the one who shapedsky, stone, wind and earth. That's where my help comes from.
The Eternal One will guide each footstep, and will not let you stumble,or fall from the path.
The Eternal, who watches over Israeldoes not grow weary, does not drift offor disappear!
The Eternal One shields us during the daytime:casts a cool shadow, protecting us from the full heat of the sun.God watches over our moonlit sleep, present through the anxious twilight hours.
The Eternal will protect you from all darkness—watching over your whole life:your going out and your returning, your rising and your resting, your wandering and your arriving—now, and always.
✙ Notice
Where do you find yourself looking for help?
✙ Walking prompt
There are no mountains in Somerset, but there are hills rising out of the mists of the Levels.
I have taken Psalm 121 to the summit of these hills and spoken these words into the wind, looking out towards the Bristol channel and the hills of Wales beyond.
If you can, find some higher ground, and allow the landscape to shape your reading of this psalm.
✙ Field note
This is not a promisethat you will never stumble, but a trust that you are never abandoned.
In every step we are accompanied.
✙ Pause to reflect
What feels uncertain or unsteady in your life right now?
Bring it to the One who does not grow weary, does not drift off or disappear.
✙ Collect for Psalm 121
God of the high summits and mountain tops—the one who does not slumber or sleep—watch over us and protect us.Guide our feet on this path.Lift us up when we stumble.Give us strength when we grow weak.Where does our help come from?
It comes from you—Creator God,our rock,our strength,and our stability.Amen.
